Cisco CCIE Security

The CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) is one of the most coveted Information Technology certifications today. It is designed to challenge even the most experienced networking professionals. With the long hours and dedication that will be required to pass the Lab exam will come personal and professional rewards.

As CCIE Security (350-018) is an "expert-level" certification, the knowledge required to complete the prequalification exam and the lab exam is vast and extensive. You will be expected to know "just about everything" and, as this is the security specialization, especially everything in relation to Cisco Security. You will be expected to answer 100 questions in two hours and obtain a 70%, or better, score to pass.

Once you have passed the prequalification exam, you will be able to schedule your CCIE Security Lab Exam (350-018 lab) at one of the Cisco CCIE Labs. At the time of this writing, Cisco only offers the CCIE Security Lab exam at one location in the United States- San Jose, CA. The Lab Exam will be a full day of hands-on grueling configuration that this prequalification exam will not prepare you for. This is because the prequalification exam is a traditional "question and answer" exam, whereas the Lab exam is completely a hands-on configuration exam.

Examsure provides high quality IT exam practice questions and answers. And Exam4sure 350-018 and Exam4sure 350-018 lab are written to coincide with the real test by the experienced IT experts and specialists. A CCNA Certification is Just the Beginning…

A question I consistently get from my CCNA students when I teach a Cisco networking associate certification class is: What will I be expected to do in a new position working with computer networks.

Completion of the CCNA exam gives you a credential, but it doesn’t give you experience. While you do get lots of book learning and some hands-on troubleshooting as you prepare for an exam, you will have a much better idea of what to expect to face in a new network administrator position if you have had some real-world experience.

In fact, I tell my students that they should try to get as much hands-on experience with Cisco routers and switches as possible before considering a job in networking, and it really does help in preparing for the exam.

Students expecting to break into the networking gig once they pass their CCNA should also be prepared to encounter challenges in security, a fundamental area of networking. Additionally, network administrators are more likely now to address issues in two newer technology areas: wireless and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Knowledge in these three areas is critical if you want to stand out among other job applicants and hit the ground running in a new job.

On the wireless front, understanding the 640-802.11 specification is key–the differences between 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g and 640-802.11n protocols. While there’s a chapter dedicated to wireless in the CCNA prep books, getting a solid understanding of these technologies will help you in any networking job, especially since wireless and networking go hand in hand at many companies.

VoIP is another technology area that you should understand pretty well for a new networking job. Phone systems aren’t what they used to be. Now phones are part of the network and integrate with data as a critical part of any business. Understanding VoIP before you get there will make a new networking job that much easier. Understanding Cisco’s VoIP and unified communications offerings will definitely give you an advantage.

Security is more critical than ever! The more you know, the better. Preparing for the CCNA, you will learn the basics of password and general security processes; on the job, you’ll be expected to understand security at a significantly deeper level—particularly if the organization you join has regulatory compliance requirements or is a target for hacking, for example. The U.S. government, for instance, has to deal with over 3 million hacker attacks per day. While you may not work for an organization that has to deal with this kind of onslaught, you will likely still be expected to take the necessary measures to secure the company’s network and data assets. Cisco has some excellent resources to help you; check out this site for other study materials and supplemental info.

These are just a few of the topics that you’ll be expected to know on top of the CCNA basics. I’ll talk about these things in greater detail in my next few posts. Until then, do your best!

Routing and Switching Written Exam 350-001

CCIE 350-001 Written Exam: You must pass the two-hour, written qualification exam which covers networking concepts and some equipment commands before you are eligible to schedule the lab exam.

CCIE 350-001 Lab Exam: The eight-hour lab exam tests your ability to configure actual equipment and get the network running in a timed test situation. You must pass the lab within three years of passing the written to achieve certification. Your first lab attempt must be made within 18 months.

Study Tips

  1. Buy a few books. This seems simple enough, but I've found there are two types of books lists for the CCIE - those for the lab and those for the written. They're not the same. For our purposes here, there are two things we want to accomplish with our reading: to quickly get the written out of the way to start the long road to the lab; and to try as much as possible to conserve money and time by finding and reading materials that are applicable to both.
  2. Download sample exams. There are several available, including www.certay.com and www.exam4sure.com, but regardless of which vendor's questions you choose, take advantage of a significant pool of questions, and select products by different authors. The subject matter for this exam is broad, and you want a good selection of material to study from.
  3. Print out a copy of the exam blueprint from the Cisco website. Use this as the basis of your notes, and don't consider yourself ready for the exam until you are completely comfortable with ALL the topics on the list. The blueprint changes occasionally, but the current version can be found at: http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/ccie/rs/wr_exam_blueprint_v3.html

Certay 350-001 is written to coincide with the real test by the experienced IT experts and specialists. With the complete collection of Questions and Answers, Certay 350-001 is high enough to help the candidates to pass this exam easily without any other study materials and no need to attend the expensive training class.

How to Pass 350-030 Exam

Step 1. Before taking a closer look at preparation resources, first take a look at the Written Exam Blueprint.

Step 2. Carefully consider how strong you are in relation to each of the objectives, then you may decide to approach the blueprint in a top-down fashion C just start with CallManager, and run through the objectives one-by-one. Or you may decide to fill in the gaps with subjects where are stronger before tackling those subjects where you are weaker. Or you may even decide to tackle the toughest subjects first, while enthusiasm is highest! Otherwise, take some substantial effort!

Step 3. It's probably best to set aside a certain amount of time every day to study for 350-030 exam, and stick to that schedule. You may find it useful to (briefly) record in a journal what exam preparation you do every day.

Step 4. Have a look at study resources that you can use in preparing for the exam. The resources include CallManager, QoS, Telephony Protocols, Unity, IOS IP telephony skills, IP IVR/IPCC Express, Security, Infrastructure protocols, Application Protocols, Operation and Network Management.

Step 5. So, you have stepped through all the study resources mentioned in step 4, and you are almost ready to book the exam. Find one resource that will help you to quickly fill in any gaps in your knowledge.

Step 6. At this point, youll be ready to book your exam. It is worth mentioning time management for the exam. Dont forget that there are 100 questions to answer in 120 minutes. So, thats just a little over a minute per question. Dont get sucked into spending too much time on one question. If you have a problem with a question, mark it and go back to it at the end.

CCIE Voice Information

The Voice track concentrates on voice solutions for the enterprise and includes subjects such as QoS, MGCP, Call Manager (Cisco's VoIP PBX), Cisco Unity (Cisco's Unified Messaging platform), Unity Express and IP Contact Center Express.

The CCIE Voice (CCIE Voice Written Exam (305-030) & CCIE Voice Lab Exam) certification is said to be one of the hardest around at the moment, and it is estimated that there are less than 800 CCIE Voice certified people in the whole world at present.

The CCIE Voice lab exam blueprint includes the following:

  • Basic Campus Design
    • DHCP, TFTP
    • Catalyst voice and data VLAN configuration
    • Catalyst VTP configuration
  • Call Manager and Call Manager Express Configuration
    • Phone registration
    • Phone configuration

  • Unified Messaging
    • Unity voicemail integration
    • Unity administration
  • CRS/IPCC Express Application
    • Default script configuration and integration
    • Custom script configuration and integration
  • Call Manager Voice Applications
    • Any native applications to Call Manager, examples are extension mobility, attendant console, IPMA
  • Supplementary Services
  • Directory Services and Integration
  • Fax
    • Fax pass-through
    • Fax relay

What sets the CCIE Voice lab exam apart from typical CCIE lab exams is the widely dissimilar platforms that are used. Configurations will have to be done on the Windows 2003 Server environment, on a CallManager web-based GUI, on the CatOS command line, on the IOS command line, as well as on the proprietary configuration environments of telephony devices such as the ATA186 and VG248. As such, it is not an exam that involves a uniform method of configuration, and it involves a lot of back-and-forth fine tuning between the numerous platforms.

The device list for the CCIE Voice lab includes the following:

  • Hardware
    • MCS 7835 Call Manager/CRS Servers
    • MCS 7835 Unity Server
    • Catalyst 6503
    • 3725 Routers (WAN, Gatekeeper, Gateway, PSTN Emulation)
    • Cisco Unity Express
    • 2651XM H.323 Gateway
    • VG248 Analog Phone Gateway
    • ATA186 Analog Telephone Adapters
    • Catalyst 3550 with inline power
    • IP Phones
    • Analog Phones
    • FAX
  • Software
    • All routers use IOS version 12.4 Main Train
    • Catalyst 6503 series switches use Switch OS version 7.6(X)
    • Catalyst 3550 series switches use IOS version 12.1EA
    • CCM version 4.1(3) with latest SR
    • Unity version 4.0(5)
    • CRS version 4.0(1)

Cisco Expert-Level Certifications

The expert-level certification is the Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert(CCIE). It is the highest level of professional certification that Cisco provides. There are five active CCIE tracks, as shown below. As of April 6, 2008 there are 16,335 people with active CCIE certifications in the world.

The CCIE is comprised of a written exam and a "lab" exam (each in the specific area of the chosen track). The written exam is required to take the lab exam, and has a cost of $315 USD per attempt. Upon passing the written exam, the candidate is qualified to have a first attempt the lab exam for eighteen months. If the first attempt is unsuccessful the candidate has three years from the date the written exam was passed to successfully complete the lab. If a candidate does not pass the CCIE lab in that time, they must pass the CCIE written exam again before making additional attempts at the CCIE lab exam. As many attempts can be made to pass the lab exam for up to three years after passing the written, so long as the first attempt is within 18 months. There is a minimum waiting time between attempts of one month.

The CCIE Lab is currently $1,400 USD per attempt and are offered only at ten Cisco lab exam locations worldwide. The locations are Bangalore; Beijing; Brussels; Dubai; Hong Kong; Research Triangle Park, NC; San Jose, CA; S?o Paulo; Sydney; and Tokyo. Some CCIE tracks do not have lab exams available at all locations. For example, the Storage Networking lab is available only at the Research Triangle Park, NC and Brussels locations. In addition, according to a survey by Cisco the average cost to prepare for CCIE certification is $9,050 as of April 2006, spent mostly on practice equipment and self study material. This is partially offset by the increased salary the certification commands, which a March 2007 Network World article estimates at 10% - 15% over similarly experienced engineers who do not have a CCIE.

The lab is an eight hour hands-on exam designed to demonstrate that the candidate not only knows the theory, but is also able to practice it. Many prospective CCIEs need multiple attempts to pass the lab exam.

CCIE Written Exams: 350-001,350-018,350-020,350-021,350-023,350-026,350-029,350-040,350-030

CCIE Lab Exams: 350-001 lab,350-018 lab

CCIE Numbering and Recertification

Upon successful completion of the hands on lab exam, a new CCIE is awarded a CCIE number. The first CCIE number allocated (in 1993) was 1024, and has increased incrementally from there. A lower number indicates that the CCIE was awarded some time back, a higher number indicated a more recently awarded certification.

Any CCIE who obtains further CCIE certifications, is not awarded any further numbers, the new CCIE certification is awarded under the same number as the original.

Every two years a CCIE has to take a CCIE written test to recertify—absent this, the CCIE is suspended and cannot receive any benefits from Cisco.

CCNA Study Guide How to prepare CCNA

I saw many of times here that people request here for dumps and confuse that how to start CCNA study? What is the best video training? etc. The main mission of sadikhov dat com isnt producing more and more braindumpers which already is happening here.Braindumper born in CCNA(all associate levels i mean CCDA etc) forums and then they create prob in CCNP(All professional levels i mean CCNP&CCSP etc) forums. So i decided to post a brief note on that.

It will be dedicated to all CISCO guys who are really studying and doing hardwork and have 0% relay on dumps. CCNA is very simple you just need to hang with me for few mints.

How to prepare CCNA?

There are 2 possibilities:

1. U already joined or looking for an institute.
or
2. U are self studying.

1. Regular CCNA study through institute :-

If you can afford and u find any well reputed and well equipped (with all necessary cisco devices) institute in your area then you should consider ur self lucky and take the admission ASAP. It is highly recommended way of study i suppose because you can work on real routers and switches and learn live through good teachers.

Note:- I already wasted my few months and money in 2 low level institutes so please while deciding institute ask the current/X students of that institute.

My own qout = = > ”Read before the teacher teach.”
Always try to study the topic which the teacher don’t teach you yet i mean next lecture.By this way you can ask more questions to teacher at real time beause u already knew the basics of that topic + this isn’t new for you and when teacher will teach you, your all doubts will be clear and i found it v v helpful for long life/better understand.

2. CCNA through self study :-

i) If you have a network background then u can start with CISCO press books but i recommend for fresh net workers to use sybex press because it is easy as compared to CISCO for beginners.
Note:- CCNA Curriculum 4 modules is highly recommended for making strong CISCO basics. If you belongs from span then you are lucky bcz a Spanish version is also available on sadikhov.

You should also study through video trainings bcz

a) These are made for whole world not for any specific institute/students.
b) You can take same lecture as many times as you want and at any suitable time when u have some free time for study.
c) Almost in all video trainings u can view live labs on live routers so it would also strong ur Lab knowledge.
d) Almost all are free on sadikhov so u need not worry to buy these.

Here is the list of recommended & all major video trainings provider companies.

1. [Train’signal] ICND1 & 2 <==== Recommended
2. Cisco press (CCNA video mentor)<===== Recommended
3. Cbtnuggets (640-802)<==== Recommended
4. knowledgenet
5. Testout
5. [learnskey]
6. Careeracademy
7. Globalknowledge

You can try only one or two types but i don’t recommend to use all of the above 7 mentioned. I personally like [Train’signal] and it is upon you that what you find better for you. There are 3 options to start study with these stuff.

a) books===>then videotraings.
b) Videotraining===>then books.
c) books + video trainings at same time.

Mr personal experience says that option b is better bcz as you go through 1 or 2 times with video training then you read book and you will feel that this book is very easy LOL. Anyway its upon you that what u like.

Related Exam: 640-822, 642-642, 642-812, 642-446, 640-553, 640-802.

Real world tip :-

My way of study is that i also convert them in audio mp3 form(by using Allok AVI-MPEG-WMV-RM-to-MP3-Converter) and listen while on bed, on driving or any relax time. But only for revision so these topics are easily sit in my mind forever. You can try it i hop it will be very helpfull.

2ndly many CCIE stuff provider companies are making audio boot camp for example Ipexprt dat com ,videoed dat com etc so this little habit also will help to you in future when you will enter in CCIE game.

CCIE Routing and Switching Written Exam 350-001

The CCIE Routing and Switching written exam, as of the time of publication, consists of a two-hour exam administered at a proctored exam facility affiliated with Pearson VUE (http://www.vue.com/cisco). The exam typically includes approximately 100 multiple-choice questions. No simulation questions are currently part of the written exam.

As with most exams, everyone wants to know what is on the 350-001 exam. Cisco provides general guidance as to topics on the exam in the CCIE Routing and Switching written exam blueprint, the most recent copy of which can be accessed from http://www.cisco.com/go/ccie.

Cisco changes both the CCIE written and lab blueprints over time, but Cisco seldom, if ever, changes the exam numbers. (Cisco changes the exam numbers of the associate- and professional-level certifications when it makes major changes to what is covered on those exams.) When Cisco changes the blueprint, the authors will add content to cover the new topics at http://www.ciscopress.com/title/9781587201967.

The blueprint tells you what major topics to study and by implication, what not to study. However, he blueprint does not provide many details about the scope and depth covered for each topic. As you prepare for the written exam, it is a good idea to study more details than you think you need to pass the exam, because the lab exam is considerably more rigorous than the written exam.

Cisco CCIE Lab Exam Information

Cisco CCIE Lab exams are eight-hour, hands-on exams that test the ability to configure and troubleshoot networking equipment and software. The topics covered on lab exams can be found on the Track Details pages, links provided on this page. Not all exams are offered at all Cisco CCIE lab locations; please consult Lab Exam Locations for specific details.

Lab Scheduling and Payment

A valid passing score on a written exam is required to schedule a lab exam. Written exam scores are automatically downloaded from testing vendors, but may take up to ten days to appear in your file. You will need the identification number you used to register for the written exam, the date of your passing exam and your passing score.

Exams must be paid for at least 28 days before the scheduled lab date, or the reservation will be automatically cancelled. You will only receive one email notification reminding you to make your payment. You can verify the payment due date on an exam by logging in and viewing your Certification Status. Payment options depend on the location of the lab exam, as indicated in the table below.

Payment processing generally takes one to seven days, so be sure to initiate the process well in advance of the payment due date. All payments will be posted exactly 28 days prior to your scheduled lab date, regardless of when you initiate the process. Invoices will not be issued until the payment is processed.

Cost of Lab Exam

Lab exams cost $1,400 USD each, not including travel and lodging. Costs may vary due to exchange rates and local taxes (VAT in Brussels and GST in Sydney). You are responsible for any fees your financial institution may charge to complete the payment transaction.
